The flexible anode is an electrical conductor with a conductive plastic and is made in the form of a cable that serves as an auxiliary anode for the cathodic protection of an impressed current and can be used for the cathodic protection of buried steel pipelines and tanks. The flexible anode is laid along the protected pipe in the bed of coke backfill close to the pipe, which produces a uniform electric field and current distribution, which protects the pipe while avoiding shielding and interference. The flexible anode produces a linked columnar electric field parallel to the pipeline in the bed, so that the protected pipeline is under the uniform electric field. The distribution of the pipeline potential along the pipeline is basically a parallel straight line.
